Jerith Home Additions & ADU: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
If you’ve got a Jerith aluminum fence, gate, or railing system on a Fresno property, you already know the frame is built to last. What fails first is almost never the pickets. It’s the hardware: gate hinges sagging under Fresno heat, latch mechanisms that stop catching after years of dry-season dust, and post caps that crack from UV exposure. We install and service Jerith-compatible components across Fresno, and a full gate rebuild typically runs $450 to $1,800 installed depending on gate width, hardware grade, and post condition. Most hardware swaps are done in a single visit.

Here’s the thing about Jerith systems: they’re aluminum, which means the metal itself won’t rust the way steel does. But aluminum transfers heat, expands in triple-digit summers, and the powder coat eventually chalks and lets moisture sit against the frame. Homeowners in Fig Garden, Woodward Park, and Clovis usually notice the gate dragging on the latch side first, or a post that developed a wobble where sprinklers have been hitting it for years. Bradford Remodeling Co Fresno is an independent contractor, not a Jerith dealer, and we work on these systems because we know the failure points.
Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith builds residential and light-commercial aluminum fence systems across several product lines, and the compatibility gotcha most people hit is this: gate hardware is matched to the frame profile, and not every hinge set fits every rail. Measure the top and bottom rail width. Most Fresno installations are the 2-inch or 2.25-inch residential profiles, but some older Tower District and Huntington Boulevard properties have 1.75-inch frames from the 1990s that take different brackets entirely.
On the gate side, Jerith gates ship with either a spring-loaded self-closing hinge or a gravity-closing hinge. The self-closers fail faster and are non-adjustable once the internal spring gives out. Gravity hinges are simpler and tend to outlast the gate itself, but they require the post to be plumb, and in Fresno’s expansive clay soils, posts drift. We stock OEM-grade hardware for both configurations, plus quality aftermarket brackets from brands we’ve used for years. For a Jerith system, we lean OEM on hinges and latches because the hole patterns match without drilling new penetrations into the aluminum. Aftermarket makes sense on post caps and pickets, where the fit is forgiving.

Signs Your Jerith Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- The gate drags or scrapes on the latch side. This is usually hinge wear, not a bent gate. Aluminum gates weigh more than they look, and once a hinge bearing wears, the gate settles and catches the post. Left alone, it’ll chew through the latch striker.
- The latch only catches half the time. Spring-loaded latches collect dust and grit from Fresno summers. The internal spring loses tension, and soon the gate bounces open when it self-closes. On a pool enclosure or a yard with a dog, that’s a safety issue, not just a nuisance.
- A post leans or rocks at the base. Fresno soil expands and contracts. When a concrete post footing shifts, the post leans and the gate goes out of alignment. Tightening hardware won’t fix it. The post needs to be re-set and re-plumbed.
- White chalky residue on the frame. Powder coat oxidation. It’s cosmetic at first, but once the coating breaks down, moisture sits against the aluminum and pitting starts. Sealing and touch-up beats waiting until the metal degrades.
- Screws backing out of hinges or latch plates. Aluminum doesn’t rust, but the steel screws Jerith uses in some hardware do. Repeated gate cycles work the screws loose. We swap them for coated stainless fasteners on every hardware job.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fresno, a Jerith gate hardware replacement runs $450 to $1,800 installed. Small pedestrian gates with a gravity hinge swap sit at the low end. Wide double gates with both self-closing hinges, a new latch, and post re-alignment land at the top. If the post footing needs to be dug and re-poured, add $300 to $700 per post depending on depth and access.
Every quote is a written, line-item price before we start. You’ll see the hardware cost, the labor, and the fastener upgrade separately. No change orders at the door. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to the full install: if any component we installed fails within a year, we return and correct it at no charge. That includes the hardware and the labor. Curtis Lane, our owner, is the one who signs that guarantee.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things: Look at the hinge screws. If they’re loose, snugging them is fine. Check whether the post is plumb with a 4-foot level. Look at the gate gap on both sides. If it’s even and the latch still misses, the latch itself is worn.
What you shouldn’t do is try to re-hang a sagging aluminum gate. Gates are heavy, and the moment you remove the top hinge, the thing wants to fold on you. On a pool enclosure or any gate over 4 feet, a dropping gate can hurt someone. We also see a lot of homeowners drill new holes for aftermarket hinges and accidentally compromise the rail. FAQs

Expect 8 to 15 years from factory hinges and latches in the Central Valley. UV exposure, sprinkler overspray, and soil movement shorten that. Gravity hinges generally outlast spring-loaded self-closers by a few years.
Latch mechanisms can sometimes be cleaned and re-tensioned, but once a spring-loaded hinge loses its spring, there’s no internal adjustment. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair will hold or if you’re buying time. Call (559) 785-2712 and we’ll put it in writing either way.
Most single-gate hardware replacements are done in 2 to 4 hours on site. If a post needs a new footing, count on a second visit for the concrete to cure. We schedule those openly up front, not as a surprise.
We stock OEM-grade hinges, latches, post caps, and coated stainless fasteners on our trucks for the most common Jerith residential profiles in Fresno. Unusual frame sizes or custom powder coat may take a few days to source. We confirm availability before you commit.
