Belgard Driveway & Pavers: The Fresno Owner’s Guide

Belgard driveway and paver work in Fresno typically runs $7,000 to $18,000 installed for a standard two-car driveway, and we carry Belgard-compatible materials plus the knowledge to match your existing pattern when a section fails. Most Fresno homeowners call us after one of two discoveries: a paver has cracked under the summer heat and shifted the surrounding field, or a section of driveway has settled into a low spot that pools water every winter. We stock the common Belgard paver sizes and colors on our trucks, and we can usually give you a written price the same day we look at the job.

We’re an independent contractor in Fresno, not a Belgard affiliate, but Belgard products have been on our documented materials roster for years. That means when we spec a paver, we can pull the manufacturer’s spec sheet and match it against what’s already in your driveway, so you’re not guessing whether the new section will match the old one after a year of Central Valley sun.

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Belgard makes three paver families you’ll most often see in Fresno driveways: the Cambridge Cobble series, the Urbana plank-style pavers, and the Holland Stone line. Each uses different dimensions, and that matters more than most homeowners expect. Cambridge Cobble pavers run roughly 6″ x 9″ with a tumbled edge. Urbana planks are longer, often 4″ x 12″ or larger, and they lock together differently. Holland Stones are the classic rectangular unit, usually 4″ x 8″. You can’t swap one for another without redrawing the whole pattern.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see weekly: Belgard changes color names and lot numbers over time, so a “Sierra Blend” purchased in 2018 is not always a visual match for “Sierra Blend” sold today. Pavers are made in batches, and pigments shift slightly between production runs. If you’re replacing a failed section, we pull a sample from your existing driveway and match it against current stock before we order anything. That extra step is the difference between a patch that disappears and one you’ll stare at for the next ten years.

On OEM versus aftermarket: Belgard pavers are concrete units, not precision mechanical parts, so there’s no meaningful aftermarket equivalent. What matters is the spec: compressive strength, absorption rate, and dimensional tolerance. Unbranded pavers from a big-box store may hold up fine for a patio, but a driveway in Fresno takes vehicle weight, direct sun, and soil movement. We stick with Belgard and Unilock because their driveway-rated units carry consistent PSI ratings and documented freeze-thaw performance, even though our freeze cycles are mild compared to the Midwest.

Signs Your Belgard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Paver edges are chipping or spalling. This is usually a water problem, not a paver problem. When the substrate holds water against the paver’s underside, the surface degrades over time. In Fresno, we see this most often where irrigation overspray keeps the driveway damp year-round.
  • Low spots that hold water after rain. Fresno’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with moisture. A low spot usually means the base layer under that section wasn’t compacted evenly, or it’s washing out. Standing water accelerates paver breakdown and invites weeds.
  • Wide, uneven gaps between pavers. Pavers shift when the edge restraint fails. Once the border moves, the whole field wants to follow. You’ll notice gaps creeping wider near the driveway edges first, before the middle starts wandering.
  • A single cracked paver surrounded by a sunken area. That crack didn’t happen in isolation. Heavy vehicle weight plus a void under the paver creates a point load the paver can’t take. Replacing just the cracked unit without fixing the base means you’ll replace it again.
  • Weeds pushing up through the joints with soil visible. Joint sand washes out over time. When it’s gone, the pavers lose lateral support and start rubbing against each other. Fresno’s summer heat bakes whatever organic matter lands in the joints into a seedbed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

A full paver driveway replacement in Fresno runs $7,000 to $18,000, with the spread driven by square footage, paver line, access for equipment, and how much base reconstruction the old driveway needs. A partial repair where we cut out and reset a failed section typically falls lower on that range, but until we open up the base layer, we won’t know how much material has to come out and go back in.

Every price we give is written, line-itemed, and fixed before work starts. No numbers that move at the door. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it applies to a 200-square-foot paver repair the same as it does a full kitchen remodel. Your written price includes demolition and haul-off of the old pavers, base material and compaction, paver delivery, installation, joint sand, edge restraint repair or replacement, and final site cleanup. Workmanship on paver work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we installed fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Paver work isn’t dangerous in the way garage-door springs are, so homeowners can safely attempt small repairs. You can re-sand joints, pull and reset a single paver, and even cut and replace a cracked unit with a paver saw and some patience. Where DIY goes wrong is base work. If your driveway has settled, pulling pavers and re-leveling them without adding and compacting base material is cosmetic. The low spot returns within a season. Fresno’s clay soil needs proper excavation, compaction, and drainage, and that’s the part most YouTube videos skip.

If you have one cracked paver and the field around it is level and tight, you can handle that repair yourself. If you have a low spot, multiple cracked units, or edges that have walked outward, call us. We’ll give you an honest read on what’s failing beneath the surface and a written price to fix it right. The estimate says what we build, and we build what the estimate says. Call (559) 785-2712 and we’ll schedule a time to look at your driveway.
