Barrette Driveway & Pavers: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
Barrette paver driveways and walkways in Fresno typically fail one of two ways: a cracked or sunken paver from substrate erosion, or an edge restraint that’s let go and let the border pavers drift. We stock Barrette-compatible replacement pavers and install them for $7,000 – $18,000 for a full driveway, with isolated paver replacement running $250 – $700 per section depending on how much base repair is needed. Most Fresno homeowners discover the problem after a winter rain, when a section of the driveway sinks half an inch and you notice the edge course no longer lines up with the curb.

The good news is this is rarely a total teardown. A failed section of a Barrette paver driveway is almost always a base problem or an edge restraint problem, not a paver problem. The pavers themselves are concrete, built to take a beating. What gives out underneath them is the sand, the compacted base, or the plastic edging that was supposed to hold the border in place. That’s what we fix.
Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette’s paver lines go under the Bella Vista, HarborStone, and Fieldstone series names, depending on which retailer carried them in Fresno. The pavers themselves are usually 60mm or 80mm thick for driveway applications, and that thickness matters more than the series name. A 60mm paver on a standard driveway base will hold a passenger vehicle fine. Put a loaded work truck on it every day and you’ll start seeing stress cracks within a few years.
One compatibility gotcha we run into regularly: Barrette changed the color blend on several of its lines around 2019. If your driveway was installed before then, the “same” color name may not match what’s on a pallet today. We bring sample boards to every estimate so you can see the actual current blend against your existing pavers before we order. For most Fresno homes, an equivalent 80mm modular paver from Belgard or Unilock matches well and costs about the same as OEM Barrette replacement stock. Bradford Remodeling Co Fresno is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Barrette, so we’ll tell you honestly when the aftermarket paver is the better call.

Signs Your Barrette Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken pavers in the wheel track. This is base failure, full stop. Fresno’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and if the original install skimped on compacted road base, you’ll see two parallel ruts form where the car tires run. The pavers didn’t fail. The ground beneath them did.
- Gaps opening between pavers along the border. The edge restraint has broken or pulled away from the pavers. Without that restraint, the entire field starts drifting outward, opening gaps that fill with dirt and weeds. It starts small and gets worse fast.
- Wobbly or rocking pavers. Individual pavers that rock underfoot mean the bedding sand has washed out from underneath. This happens most often near downspouts or where irrigation overspray hits the driveway. Left alone, the paver eventually cracks from the uneven load.
- Cracked pavers in a diagonal line across the drive. This is a settlement crack, not a paver defect. The slab has moved and the pavers moved with it. Replacing the cracked pavers without fixing the settlement means the new ones crack too, usually within a year.
- Sand accumulating on the driveway surface after rain. That’s joint sand washing up from between the pavers. The pavers channel water through the joints, and when the sand escapes, the pavers start rubbing against each other. You’ll see chipped edges next.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we quote for Barrette-compatible driveway and paver work in Fresno, with a written price before any work starts.
- Paver driveway installation (new): $7,000 – $18,000
- Driveway replacement (tear-out and reinstall): $5,000 – $14,000
- Isolated paver repair (base + pavers): $500 – $1,500 per section
- Edge restraint repair: $250 – $700
- Joint sand reapplication: $250 – $500
What drives the range is base condition and access. A driveway where the original base is still sound needs pavers pulled, bedding sand re-screeded, and the same pavers reset. A driveway where the base has turned to mush needs excavation and new road base, and that’s a different job. Every estimate includes a line-item breakdown so you see exactly what you’re paying for. And when the work is done, you get our written 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s non-negotiable.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the straight answer from Curtis Lane, who’s been running projects like this across Fresno for over two decades. You can safely check the edge restraint yourself: walk the border, look for sections where the plastic or metal edging has pulled away from the pavers, and check whether any spikes have worked loose. You can also check joint sand by running a finger between pavers after a dry spell. That’s diagnosis, and it’s safe.
Where DIY goes wrong is resetting pavers without fixing what’s underneath. Pull a sunken paver, throw more sand in the hole, set it back, and it’ll sink again in six months. Fresno clay doesn’t forgive shortcuts. And if the job involves more than three or four pavers, you’re going to need to relevel the bedding sand across the entire section or the new pavers will sit proud of the old ones. FAQs

Barrette concrete pavers last 25 – 30 years in Fresno when the base is done right. The pavers themselves rarely wear out. What fails first is almost always the base, edge restraint, or joint sand, and those are all repairable without replacing the field.
A sunken section can usually be repaired by lifting the pavers, re-screeding the bedding sand, and resetting them. A cracked paver cannot be repaired; it gets replaced. If more than 20% of the driveway is cracked or the settlement runs deep, replacement starts to make more sense than repair. Call (559) 785-2712 and we’ll give you an honest read.
A typical isolated paver repair in Fresno takes one day for the repair itself, plus a day for the base to settle before final compaction. A full driveway replacement runs three to five days depending on access and how much old base needs to come out.
We carry a limited stock of common 60mm and 80mm replacement pavers, joint sand, and edge restraint on our trucks for the most common Barrette blend. For anything less common, we order from our supplier and typically have it on site within a week. We also work with Belgard and Unilock for aftermarket equivalents when they’re the better match for your existing color.
The estimate says what we build, and we build what the estimate says. If the pavers are failing, call (559) 785-2712 for a free estimate. Curtis will walk the driveway with you, tell you what’s actually wrong, and give you one written price with no numbers that move at the door.
