Wellborn Home Additions & ADU: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
If you have a Wellborn cabinet or millwork component that has failed inside a Fresno home addition or ADU, we can match it, order the correct replacement, and install it. A Wellborn-specific replacement part for an addition or ADU project in Fresno runs $45,000 – $130,000 for full addition work and $90,000 – $220,000 for ADU construction, with cabinet and millwork component replacement typically falling within a $400 – $3,000 installed range depending on the part. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a drawer face that no longer sits flush, a corner cabinet with a hinge pulling loose from the frame, or a soft-close mechanism that has stopped catching.

We’re an independent remodeling contractor in Fresno. We are not affiliated with Wellborn, but we install and service Wellborn cabinetry regularly, and we know exactly how their parts behave in Central Valley heat and dry air.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn builds cabinetry lines that show up in hundreds of Fresno additions and ADUs we’ve walked, and most of what fails falls into a few repeatable categories. The Wellborn Estate, Premier, and Select series all use a face-frame construction with either full-overlay or standard-overlay doors. The hinge type changes by series. Estate and Premier lines typically run Blum or Grass soft-close hinges with a 35mm cup bore and a 110-degree opening. Select series cabinets often use a compact 26mm cup hinge with a clip-on mounting plate. That 9mm difference is the single most common misorder we see from homeowners who try to match parts online.
If you’re trying to identify which part you need, open the cabinet door and look at the inside edge of the face frame near the top hinge. Wellborn stamps a production code there: a letter prefix, a six-digit cabinet number, and a two-digit finish code. That code tells us the series, the door style, and the finish so we order the right match the first time. For drawer boxes, pull the drawer out and check the underside of the box for a laser-printed number. When we replace Wellborn parts, we spec OEM where the finish match matters (exposed faces, drawer fronts, crown molding) and quality aftermarket where it doesn’t (soft-close slides, shelf pins, hinge clips). That keeps the visual result true while keeping the hardware cost real.
One other thing that matters in Fresno specifically: Wellborn’s maple and birch drawer boxes are kiln-dried, but a 100-degree summer and single-digit winter humidity will still move wood. Side-mounted drawer guides that ran smooth in June can bind in December. That’s not a defect. It’s the Central Valley, and we account for it when we set drawer guide clearances.

Signs Your Wellborn Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Hinges pulling loose from the face frame. The screw holes in the frame strip out over time, especially on high-use doors. The hinge then sags and the door rubs against its neighbor. The fix is a threaded repair insert plus a hinge reshim, not caulk or longer screws driven blind.
- Soft-close mechanisms that no longer catch. Blum and Grass dampers have a small piston that fails after roughly eight to twelve years of daily cycles. When it goes, the drawer slams shut. We stock replacement dampers on the truck for most Wellborn drawer configurations.
- Drawer fronts separating from the drawer box. This shows up most often in ADU kitchens that run hot and dry. The wood loses moisture, the adhesive bond breaks, and the front shifts a few millimeters. You’ll see a hairline gap along the top edge. We re-secure with a mechanical fastener and a moisture-tolerant adhesive, then reclamp and reset the reveal.
- Finish checking or delaminating near heat sources. Cabinets flanking a wall oven or range in an addition, especially a smaller ADU kitchen with tight clearances, develop fine cracks in the finish. It’s cosmetic but it spreads. Wellborn touch-up kits cover minor scuffs; full refinish is the real fix when the checking is widespread.
- Corner cabinet shelves falling from their supports. The plastic shelf clips Wellborn uses in lazy-Susan corner cabinets get brittle with heat. The shelf drops and everything on it shifts. We swap those for metal clips rated for higher sustained temps.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For the Wellborn parts we replace inside Fresno additions and ADUs, here’s the real range, installed:
- Single hinge or damper replacement: $45 – $185 per door or drawer
- Full drawer box replacement with OEM-match front: $220 – $575 per drawer
- Cabinet door replacement, OEM-ordered to match finish: $180 – $485 per door
- Corner cabinet hardware overhaul (clips, pin, hub): $120 – $340
- Full cabinet refacing touch-up on an ADU kitchen: $3,000 – $12,000 depending on door count
The wide spread on door and drawer replacement comes down to whether we’re ordering a single OEM piece or matching a door set across a run of cabinets. Wellborn finishes vary slightly by production batch, so sometimes a single door stands out against neighbors from a different year. We flag that before you spend the money. Every replacement gets a written price before we start, and every install is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the hinge sags or the drawer binds inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Cabinet and millwork parts are not high-tension or electric, so the safety risk is low. You’re not going to hurt yourself replacing a shelf clip. But the failure risk is real: a hinge screw driven into an already-stripped frame hole will strip it worse. A soft-close damper ordered from the wrong series won’t seat. A drawer front clamped with wood glue at the wrong temperature will pop again by August. What you can safely check: the stamping code inside the face frame, whether the hinge cup is 35mm or 26mm, and whether the drawer guide is side-mount or under-mount. Write those down. Then call us at (559) 785-2712. We’ll get the right part, set it correctly, and put the guarantee in writing.
FAQs

Doors, drawer boxes, and face frames last 20 to 30 years when installed correctly and kept in a conditioned space. Hinges, dampers, and slides are wear items; expect 8 to 12 years of daily use before they need replacement. Heavy-use ADU rental kitchens cycle faster.
Yes, in most cases. Stripped hinge holes, sluggish dampers, separated drawer fronts, and broken shelf clips are all repairable without replacing the cabinet box. We replace only when the part itself is cracked, finished surfaces can’t be matched, or the repair cost approaches 60% of new. Call (559) 785-2712 and we’ll give you the straight number either way.
A hinge, damper, or clip replacement is done in under an hour. An OEM-ordered door or drawer front takes four to six weeks from Wellborn’s Alabama facility, then about an hour to hang and adjust. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at before any work is scheduled, and the written estimate includes the wait time.
We stock common hardware on the truck: soft-close dampers, 35mm and 26mm hinge sets, mounting plates, drawer slides, shelf clips, and repair inserts. OEM doors, drawer fronts, and finish-matched trim are ordered to the cabinet’s production code, so we carry those on order, not on the shelf. We also keep parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone lines we service in the same market.
